College success doesn’t happen by chance — it happens by design. That’s where Strategies for Success (SLS 1501) comes in.

Designed specifically for first-year, first-generation and international students, this dynamic, 3-credit course gives you the tools, strategies and mindset to thrive at UCF and beyond. You’ll learn how to manage your time, set meaningful goals, navigate campus resources, and find, interpret and write academic research papers.

But more than that, you’ll develop a stronger sense of self — discovering how your values, strengths and interests can guide your academic and career journey.

Led by passionate instructors and supported by peer mentors, SLS 1501 is more than a class. It’s a launchpad. You’ll gain real-world skills you’ll use throughout your life — such as critical thinking, communication and personal accountability — while connecting with a community that’s invested in your success from day one.

At UCF, we believe in meeting you where you are and helping you go further than you imagined. SLS 1501 is the first step.

Build Your Foundation for the Future.

Taught in partnership with the Department of Educational Leadership and Higher Education , UCF Global, the College of Business and the Summer Bridge Program, Strategies for Success (SLS 1501) is designed to help you succeed at UCF and beyond. But don’t take our word for it. Here’s what our students and professors have to say about it.

Still not convinced? Read what other students who have taken the course had to say:

In high school I aced every exam. I honestly did not have to study. My first exam at UCF was an eye opener. Not only did I fail — it broke my confidence. SLS helped me implement a better study routine, test-taking strategies, and introduced me to the Student Academic Resource Center (SARC).

UCF has over 500 organizations and clubs. I knew I wanted to be involved on campus but had no idea the real time commitment. SLS helped me prioritize my time management skills so school was the main goal but I could still be involved and make friends.
