Professional Summary

Dr. Doug Goodman (Ph.D. The University of Utah, 2002; MS Utah, 1996; BA Brigham Young University, 1992) is a Professor and Director of the School of Public Administration at the University of Central Florida. He is also an inaugural John C. Stennis Fellow at the John C. Stennis Institute of Government and Community Development at Mississippi State University.

Most recently, Dr. Goodman worked as a professor of Public and Nonprofit Management at the University of Texas at Dallas. He also served as the MPA Director and the Program Head during part of his 10 years at UTD. Prior to working at UT Dallas, Dr. Goodman was a faculty member in the Political Science and Public Administration Department at Mississippi State University. Dr. Goodman has directed numerous dissertations and has served on dozens of dissertation committees over the course of his career. He is the former Chair of the Section on Personnel and Labor Relations at ASPA. He has won outstanding professor awards at both UT Dallas and MSU.

Dr. Goodman’s teaches public human resource management, negotiation, and public management courses. His current research interests include public human resource management, comparative public administration, organizational behavior, state and local government, and sustainability. He has two co-edited books, Texas: Yesterday and Today—Readings in Texas Politics and Public Policy and Contested Landscape: The Politics of Wilderness in Utah and the West. Dr. Goodman’s research appears in journals such as the Public Administration Review, American Review of Public Administration, Public Administration, Review of Public Personnel Administration, Political Research Quarterly, Human Resource Development Quarterly, and Public Personnel Management. Dr. Goodman serves on the editorial boards of Public Administration Review, Journal of Public Affairs Education, Review of Public Personnel Administration, and Public Personnel Management.

Dr. Goodman is married and has 5 adult children. His wife, Shelly, is a special education resource elementary school teacher. Dr. Goodman’s interests include cycling, genealogy/family history, and scuba diving.
