Exceptional Student Education
Dr. Martha S Lue Stewart is a full professor in the School of Teacher Education in the Exceptional Education program area. The first African American female promoted to the rank of professor at UCF, she also serves as the Program Coordinator of the Supporting High Needs Populations certificate. Earlier in her post-graduate career, she served as a postdoctoral Fellow through the McKnight Jr. Faculty Fellowship, at AACTE, where she studied the underrepresentation of teachers of color in our nation’s schools. At UCF, she was the Founding Director of the Teacher Education for America’s Minorities (TEAM) Project, a Ford Foundation initiative that seeks to address the recruitment, retention, and induction of persons of color into teacher education. Dr. Lue Stewart served as a facilitator for the highly successful Urban Teacher Residency Program (UTRP), a residential program that placed faculty in Title 1 schools to offer coursework and professional development within a designated school. In addition to teaching courses in Exceptional Student Education and the Supporting High Needs Populations certificate, she is a Lead Researcher on a state-funded grant designed to address preventative strategies in decreasing situational environmental circumstances that impede the growth and development of young African American males. In the Spring, 2018, Dr. Lue Stewart will serve as a Professor in Residence at one of the college’s partner urban middle schools.
