“My learning journey was enhanced by the strong personal connections I’ve developed over the years. Opportunities outside the classroom had a greater impact on my time in the program than I could have imagined. Participating in lab projects strengthened my research skills. My research poster presentation earned me the graduate student award at the 2024 Student Scholar Symposium at UCF. I presented my research on emotion regulation at the 18th International Conference on Motivation and Emotion in Bern, Switzerland. I recently had the honor of presenting on behalf of my lab at the 2025 American Educational Research Association symposium. A chance discussion with an emotion regulation researcher led me to join a community of scholars exploring the use of facial expression software in emotion regulation research. My experiences outside of the classroom have been vital to my development."
