What We Offer
1-On-1 Counseling for Adults
In one-on-one counseling, you'll have a space that’s all your own — a place to talk openly, be heard without judgment and focus fully on the challenges you’re facing. Whether you're working through stress and anxiety, exploring your sense of identity or learning new tools for setting healthy boundaries, your counselor will be there to guide you with care and respect.
Please Note: Our student counselors cannot serve individuals who are working to address an active addiction. If you are receiving active counseling elsewhere for addiction, however, our counselors can work with you to address distress in other areas.
Marital and Couples Counseling
Every relationship faces challenges, but you don’t have to face them without support. Couples counseling offers a safe, neutral space to explore what’s working, what’s not and what’s possible. With the help of an advanced counselor-in-training, you and your partner will learn tools to improve communication, navigate conflict, strengthen intimacy and reconnect with one another in meaningful ways. We don’t take sides or make judgments about your future. Instead, we support your shared goals — whether that’s healing, growing closer or finding clarity.
When space allows, you may seek individual counseling alongside partner sessions to better support your personal growth within a healthy relationship.
Please Note: We’re unable to work with couples where domestic violence is currently occurring, and you may be asked to sign a “no violence” contract to begin services.
Family Counseling
Family dynamics are complex — and so is the work of growing together. In family counseling, we focus on creating healthier ways to communicate, resolve conflict and support one another. Your counselor will guide the conversation with care, helping each person feel heard while exploring the patterns that may be holding your family back. We don’t assign blame or offer quick fixes. Instead, we help you tap into your family’s strengths and find new ways of relating that promote understanding, connection, and resilience.
When space is available, family members may seek individual counseling in addition to family sessions to further support personal healing and growth.

What You Can Expect
The Experience
After You Submit a Request
You’ll start by scheduling a phone call with a member of our team, who will guide you through a few questions to help us better understand your needs. If we’re not the right fit, we’ll offer thoughtful referrals to connect you with the care you deserve. If our services align with what you’re looking for, we’ll pair you with one of our counselors whose expertise fits your concerns. Your responses will be shared with them ahead of your first session, so you can begin with support that’s informed and focused from the start.
Your First and Second Sessions
When you arrive at the Counseling and Community Research Center, you’ll be welcomed at check-in before your counselor comes to greet you and guide you to one of our 10 private, comfortable counseling rooms. Your first two sessions are designed to help you settle in, discuss your concerns, share your background and begin outlining your goals for counseling. In your first meeting, you’ll review the information you shared during your initial phone call and answer a few additional questions to help your counselor get a clearer picture of you and your needs. Sessions typically take place once a week for 50 minutes (or 90 minutes during the summer) over 12 weeks, with the option to continue for up to three semesters.
As part of your experience, you’ll notice a camera in the room and your counselor wearing a Bluetooth earpiece. That’s because we’re a counselor training facility, and you’ll be working with an advanced graduate student from one of UCF’s highly ranked counseling programs. Throughout your session, a licensed faculty member or advanced doctoral supervisor will observe and guide your counselor in real time, ensuring that you receive attentive, high-quality care grounded in the latest clinical training.
Your Third Session
Your counselor will review an individualized treatment plan with you that’s been reviewed and approved by a team of counselors, so you’ll know what’s going to happen every step of the way.
Moving Forward
As you continue meeting with your counselor and working through your treatment plan, we’ll be actively monitoring your progress — and our own effectiveness — to ensure you’re getting the care you need. As the semester wraps up, you and your counselor will decide together on the best next steps, whether that means continuing services with us, transitioning to another type of care that better fits your needs, or moving on with confidence.
Our Counselors
Get two counselors for the price of none. At the Counseling and Community Research Center, you’ll work with a dedicated graduate student from one of UCF’s nationally recognized counseling programs. Behind the scenes, their work is supported and guided by an experienced supervisor — either a faculty expert or an advanced doctoral student. This collaborative approach ensures you receive personalized care backed by professional insight and evidence-based best practices.
Your Privacy
Your privacy and safety are our top priorities. That’s why the Center is designed with discretion and security in mind — from a private exterior entrance to secure, individually locked rooms. Our team strictly follows all HIPAA and FERPA regulations to ensure your information is protected, and adheres to the ethical standards of the American Counseling Association and the laws of the State of Florida. To support training and maintain quality care, sessions are recorded through a secure closed-circuit system and handled with the highest level of confidentiality.

In order to meet the needs of the community and provide services to those individuals on the waiting list, we abide by a strict cancellation/no-show policy. If you fail to attend your first scheduled session, you will be automatically removed from the counselor's schedule in order to accommodate other available parties from the waiting list. In order to place your name back on the waiting list, you must call in and speak with one of our available staff members. Special considerations may be arranged by your counselor on a case-by-case basis for emergency situations.
After the first session, the clinic has a strict two cancellation/no-show policy. If you must cancel, please make sure to call the clinic at 407-823-2052 to inform the counselor. After two missed/cancelled sessions, you will be removed from the counselor's schedule. If you are interested in being placed back on the waiting list, you must call in and speak with a staff member. Again, special considerations may be arranged by your counselor on a case-by-case basis for emergency situations.
In order to request records or a treatment letter from the CCRC, you must fill out and sign the "Authorization to Use and Disclose Protected Health Information" form found in the "forms" section. When requesting records, please allow at least 3 weeks for our staff to gather and prepare a copy of requested records or a treatment letter.
Please Note: Your diagnosis will not be disclosed with any records. As a training facility, the diagnosis process is a training exercise alone for the professional growth of the counseling student and is not an official component of your records.
