September 1, 2017 to August 31, 2022

Goal

Improve English learners’ (ELs) academic achievement by fostering dual language programs across the Greater Orlando and Tampa Bay areas of Florida

Objectives

  • Prepare 100 highly qualified dual language teachers through a technology-enhanced (simulation, digital badging, mixed-mode course platforms) graduate dual language education certificate (full scholarships for 25 candidates per year X 4 years)
  • Measure ELs’ math, reading, and WIDA ACCESS scores in the certificate completers’ classes over the four years of the study (possibly continuing to a 5th year, pending no-cost extension)
  • Develop and offer professional learning, coaching, and resources focused on improving parental, family, and community engagement in dual language education for administrators, teachers, staff, and community members in our partner schools (general & custom videos, online materials)
  • Develop and offer bilingual outreach activities, including an online afterschool program for students and parents, for the K-12 partner schools (bilingual homework assistance via videoconferencing)
