Biography
Tahira Yeasmeen is a Post-Doctoral Scholar at the at the University of Central Florida (UCF) in the School of Global Health Management and Informatics. She is also a member of the Substance Use Policy & Evaluation (SUPER) research team at UCF. She earned her Ph.D. in Public Health from School of Population and Global Health at the University of Melbourne, Australia. Her research focused on addressing health disparities among migrant women, with a particular emphasis on breast and cervical cancer screening as well as HPV vaccination. She has received her Master of Public Health (MPH) degree from Purdue University, Indiana, USA. She has earned her Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degree from Sir Salimullah Medical College in Bangladesh.
In her post-graduation studies, she focused on understanding migrant Muslim women’s preventive health practices and associated factors for participating in different preventive health services such as breast and cervical screening and HPV vaccination. She developed a conceptual framework based on socioecological model to understand how different factors influence screening and vaccination participation of migrant Muslim women.
At UCF, she contributes to both quantitative and qualitative research projects regarding the availability and accessibility of treatment for substance use disorder. Her research interests focus on to reducing disparities related to substance use disorder within marginalized communities and promoting health equity.
