Our Goals

The Morgridge International Reading Center will:

  • Provide an open forum for the exchange of experiences and ideas at all educational levels
  • Facilitate professional learning opportunities
  • Act as a clearinghouse for information relating to disciplinary literacy acquisition and instruction
  • Participate and encourage participation in international projects that focus on disciplinary literacy acquisition and instruction
  • Investigate the adaptive challenges of technology in disciplinary literacy acquisition and instruction
  • Assist in using emerging technology in disciplinary literacy acquisition and instruction
  • Promote disciplinary literacy acquisition and instruction among individuals respectful of culture, ethnicity, race, faith, sexual orientation and gender

The Morgridge International Reading Center core values of literacy, service, access, and research will undergrid all efforts to “bring people and ideas together” while learning, researching, communicating, and collaborating. The leadership of the Morgridge International Reading Center will reflect individually and collaboratively to improve literacy acquisition and instruction. Each event at the Morgridge International Reading Center will focus on communicating the importance of literacy acquisition and instruction. The Center’s website will function as a conduit to further the core values by disseminating information as well as housing archives for the Morgridge International Reading Center.

Core Values

Literacy

Disciplinary literacy acquisition and instruction is the driving force behind all activities and materials at the Morgridge International Reading Center. We define disciplinary literacy as the confluence of content knowledge, experiences, technology and skills combined with the proficiency to read, write, listen, speak, think critically and function in a manner that is meaningful within the context of a given field.

Service

Providing professional learning opportunities at a local, national, and international level is critical to the function of the Morgridge International Reading Center. Our explicit target is to support programs and events that improve disciplinary literacy acquisition and instruction for all learners from birth through adulthood.

Access

Events at the Morgridge International Reading Center will be accessible to all respectful of culture, ethnicity, race, faith, sexual orientation and gender. The Center's website will continue to evolve to enhance accessibility.

Research

In addition to promoting quantitative and qualitative research, the Morgridge International Reading Center will inform practitioner scholars and research scholars on theory and practice through presentations and publications.

FLaIR Faculty Fellows

In association with the Morgridge International Reading Center, the Florida Literacy and International Reading (FLaIR) Faculty Fellows is a cooperative effort among Florida state university professors with diverse expertise and focused on improving instruction. As partners with the Morgridge International Reading Center, the FLaIR Faculty Fellows serve as a resource for teachers and students in the state of Florida. Well published and respected in education, each FLaIR Faculty Fellow (FFF) is dedicated to be a catalyst for research and a conduit for information to improve pre-K – 20 instruction at a state, national, and international level. Presenting at state, national, and international conferences, individually and collectively, the FFF’s are nationally and internationally recognized scholars.

Collaborative Partnerships

The Morgridge International Reading Center is in partnership with faculty, universities, and organizations throughout the world with the goal of advancing disciplinary literacy through communication, collaboration, learning, and research. Learn more about our partnerships.
