Dr Nisha Phillip-Malahoo is a third grade teacher at Pinewood Elementary School. She has been a teacher for 11 years. Dr. Phillip-Malahoo earned her doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Central Florida, with her dissertation titled: Lesson Study as a Catalyst for Including Concepts and Procedures in Planning and Implementing Fraction-Based Mathematics Lessons: An Elementary School Case Study. Prior to her doctorate, she obtained her master’s degree in K-8 Mathematics and Science Education from the University of Central Florida.

Dr. Phillip Malahoo has presented her research and innovative teaching methods at numerous international, national, and state conferences, including:

  • International Conference on Research in Science and Mathematics Education (ICRSME)
  • National Council of Supervisors of Mathematics Annual Conference
  • Florida Council of Teachers of Mathematics Annual Conference

Dr. Phillip-Malahoo’s goal is to prepare students to successfully navigate the ever-changing, increasingly complex world by equipping them with skills in science, technology, engineering, and math while simultaneously fostering equitable and inclusive teaching practices.
