Biography

Dr. Michael McManus is a lecturer at the University of Central Florida in the School of Teacher Education. He earned his doctoral degree from the University of Arizona in Language, Reading and Culture with an emphasis in Early Literacy. Dr. McManus was the principal investigator for a recent exploratory model demonstration grant in which investigators reported on factors that increase student teacher effectiveness. He is currently working with investigators from seven states on a national study that considers the experiences of exemplary literacy teachers in light of district, state and federal mandates and how these model teachers respond to the changes. He hopes to use this information to help student teachers develop strategies for coping with any preconceptions, misconceptions, or dissonance they may have as they transition from university courses to their clinical field experiences and then into the workplace.
