Honors and Professional Association Awards
Kent Butler, professor of counselor education, won the Association for Multicultural Counseling and Development’s Samuel H. Johnson Distinguished Service Award.
Viki Kelchner, associate professor of counselor education, won the International Association of Marriage and Family Counselors’ Training and Mentorship Award and the Association for Child and Adolescent Counseling’s Counselor Educator Advocate Award. Additionally, she received the Samuel T. Gladding Inspiration and Motivation Award from the Association for Creativity in Counseling.
Ann Shillingford, associate professor of counselor education, was elected to be the 2024-2025 president of the Association for Multicultural Counseling and Development. She also received the Association for Counselor Education and Supervision’s Professional Leadership Award.
Dalena Dillman Taylor won the Association for Child and Adolescent Counseling’s Researcher Advocate Award and the Association for Counselor Education and Supervision’s Locke-Paisley Outstanding Mentor Award.
Amanda Walden, associate lecturer of global health management and informatics, received the American Health Information Management Association’s Triumph Educator Award.
Su-I Hou, professor of global health management and informatics, received a Fulbright Specialist Award to travel to Israel’s Ben-Gurion University of the Negev.
The School of Teacher Education was one of only two of its kind to receive the Shirley S. Schwartz Urban Education Impact award at the Council for the Great City Schools’ annual conference.
Staci Zavattaro, professor of public administration, was named a Richard P. Nathan Public Policy Fellow by the State University of New York’s Rockefeller Institute of Government for the 2022-23 term.
Donita Grissom, association lecture of world languages education, was selected by the U.S. Department of State for a three-week English Language Specialist project in Vietnam at Hai Phong University.
